The National Trust commissioned a review of how best to interpret their properties. Much of the research pointed towards the importance of hands-on experiences and the role of the arts in enlivening places. An inspiring case example is the collaboration between Fermynwoods Contemporary Art, National Trust staff at Lyvden New Bield and the artist Peter Randall-Page, whose artworks were placed both within the roofless building and alongside the abandoned Elizabethan mounts and moats.
