Abbey Gardens

Working with the designer Judi Legg, PLAYLINK and St Edmundsbury Council, the project brief was to re-nature the play area that sits by the medieval Abbey of Bury St Edmunds. Our response was to reconnect the site to its boundary river, the river Lark, and to the pocket of woodland to its northern edge. Water-edge trees, carved wood and sand were used to invite open-ended play and sensory exploration and to contrast with the dramatic flint arches of the ruined Abbey.
